Description
The south-west barn at the rear of the yard at Wellhead Farm is a late 17th-century structure. It features a timber frame set on a red brick sill and is covered in dark weatherboarding with a steeply pitched roof that was originally thatched but is now finished with asbestos sheeting. This tall barn has four bays and faces north, with double doors located in the second bay from the west. The barn includes jowled posts and long cranked braces supporting the tie-beams. Each roof slope has two purlins, with the upper purlin clasped by a high collar and the lower purlin butt-jointed. Additionally, there are straight wind-braces connecting to the lower purlin at the gable ends.
