Description

36 Charlton is likely an 18th century building that has undergone significant alterations and additions. The main section is constructed of red brick and features a roof covered with Welsh slate. There are two smaller two-storey wings at the front, one of which has a half-hipped gable and decorative chequer brickwork, with roofs made of tiles and Welsh slates. A plaque on the building notes that Sir Henry Bessemer, a notable inventor and engineer, was born here in 1813.
