TL 11 NE KIMPTON ANSELLS END

6/75 Ansell's End Farmhouse 29/8/85 ( formerly listed as Smith's Farmhouse)

Farmhouse. C15 or early-C16 hall house, the hall floored over in C16, when a 2 storey cross wing was added at the W end. Cased in dark red brick circa 1800 and roof given a single pitch. 2 storeys. 3 glazing bar casements, 2 on ground floor with segmental heads. Central door has 2 flush, 2 fielded and 2 glazed panels. Moulded wood frame. Cut brackets. Moulded and dentilled brick eaves cornice. Tall C17 chimney stack on front W end with 2 square shafts. Interior has on right centre a C15 or C16 smoke bay into which a brick stack has been inserted. Heavy C16 chamfered floor beams. Roof retains 2 crown posts and some smoke-blackened rafters. Some C18 partitioning. Rear elevation shows sable of cross wing and projecting beyond this is a C.16 service bay with C18 red brick and timber frame casing. Fragmentary early-C17 wall paintings in ground floor of cross wing.
