Description
Atchley Manor is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century, with later additions and alterations. The building is primarily timber framed, with some parts resting on a stone plinth, and features red brick infilling and plain tiled roofs. It has a hall and cross wing design that has been extended and converted into a symmetrical house with two projecting wings facing the garden. The structure is two storeys high with attics.
The hall likely consists of three and a half structural bays, showcasing heavy square panelling on the left side. The first floor has three 4-paned 19th-century sash windows, while the ground floor features 20th-century casements and a door, along with an integral brick stack in the roof slope. The cross wing to the left has three framed bays, heavy square panelling with short tension braces, and two 4-paned 19th-century sashes in the gable, as well as an integral brick stack in the roof slope. On the farmyard side, there are 19th and 20th-century additions built on an old sandstone plinth, and on the first floor of the hall, there is a reset datestone reading "E1588".
To the right of the hall, on the garden side, is a late 18th or early 19th-century red brick range, partly painted with black strips to imitate timber framing. This section features 4-paned 19th-century sashes (one of which is blocked) with segmental heads on the first floor, and two 3-light 19th-century casements with segmental heads on the ground floor. The range also has a dentilled eaves cornice, raised verges on kneelers, and both end and integral brick stacks.
