Description
Nos. 24, 26, and 28 High Street is a terrace of three houses, originally four, built in the early to mid-19th century. The houses are constructed of red brick with dark red headers and feature slate roofs. They form a symmetrical block along the roadside, with two pairs of houses and a central tunnel access to the rear. Each pair shares a square internal chimney topped with two square buff terracotta pots. The eaves are adorned with a dentilled brick band.
Each house has two 2-light casement windows on the first floor, a wide triple-sash window on the ground floor, and a plank door set in a heavy frame on the side away from the fireplace. The windows on both floors are topped with segmental brick arches. No. 28 has been altered to comprise two houses at the northern end, with the most northerly doorway changed to accommodate a 2-light casement window. The terrace is included for its group value.
