Description

Gothic House is a house dating from the late 17th century, with Gothic features added in the 18th century. It has a parallel rear range from the 18th or 19th century. The building is timber-framed, covered in roughcast, and sits on a stucco plinth. It has a steep old red tile roof with projected front eaves. The house is two stories tall with an attic and is positioned on a bank overlooking the village pond, facing east. The near-symmetrical east front has features slightly offset to the left to accommodate a large internal chimney on the north gable.

The front has three windows and an entrance in the middle between the ground floor windows. All windows are large pointed two-light flush casements with intersecting glazing bars at the heads, small panes, and external louvred shutters. There is a canted oriel window above the door, supported by a canted cove, with smaller pointed side-lights. The entrance features a four-panel fielded door, with the top two panels glazed and a four-centred arched head in a narrow moulded frame. This is flanked by bold rusticated pilasters and blocks of entablature around the arched head of the doorway. A chimney is located on the south half of the house, with a lower rear wing behind. The roof appears to have three structured bays.
