Description

This is a house, now divided into two separate dwellings, dating to the 17th century or earlier. A western extension was added and the property subdivided in the early 19th century. The house is timber-framed with a plastered brick sill and roughcast rendering. The east gable and west end are constructed of plum brick, while the roof is now slate. The building has a long, three-cell plan, with end chimneys, and stands on a sloping site, set back from the road and facing north. The eastern section forms number 4, and the western section forms number 5. It is two storeys and includes a partial cellar. Windows are flush casements with three panes, and number 4 has a four-panel, flush-beaded door. The entrance to number 5 is located in the west end. A canted bay window is located to the right of the door and extends downwards to light a basement room. A two-storey bay window is located above the entrance to number 5. Inside number 5, a large internal chimney serves an open fireplace. In number 4, the interior reveals exposed, chamfered and stopped axial and cross-beams.
