Description

Fife House and the linked outbuildings to the north are a house and outbuildings dating from the 16th century or early 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and mid-19th century. The house features a timber frame with roughcast, while the outbuildings have a ground floor of chequered red and black brick and roughcast above. The roofs are steep and covered with old red tiles.

The house is two stories tall and has an H-plan layout, facing east. The south parlour wing projects further to the east but not to the west, while the north service wing extends to the rear. There is a large chimney on the rear wall of the hall and external sidewall chimneys on the south of the south wing and on the north of the north wing. The hall range includes a staircase in the through-passage at the north end and doors leading to two rooms in the north wing. The rear part of the north wing contains an internal chimney and staircase.

To the north side of the house, there is a large two-story outbuilding with a prominent top-hamper rooflight lantern on its half-hipped roof. The east front of the house features two flush sash windows with 2/2 panes on the first floor of the hall range, with a tiled pentice below supported by paired posts, protecting the central entrance door situated between the two sash windows. Each wing has a three-light flush leaded casement on the first floor. The ground floor includes bow windows on the south wing, which is supported by a wide jetty on paired brackets. The staircase features an 18th-century baluster that has been reused in a 19th-century restoration.
