Description

The Holt Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse that was refronted in 1798, as indicated by the date on the front. The building features red brick construction with two parallel hipped old red tile roofs, and the inner slopes are slated. It is a large, two-storey house with a double-pile plan, facing west at the rear of a long forecourt that is flanked by farm buildings. Originally, the house had a two-cell layout with an end chimney, a central entrance, and a stair plan. One cell matches the south extension at the service end.

The west front has four sash windows on the first floor, which are similar to those on the right-hand side of the ground floor, along with two canted bay windows flanking the entrance. There are three steps leading up to a six-panel flush beaded door, with the top two panels being glazed. The entrance is adorned with fluted tapered Doric pilasters, a section of entablature, and a triangular open pediment featuring a mutular cornice and an enriched bedmould. Above the door, there is a blank arched tympanum with a moulded transom, and the date is located to the right-hand side.

Inside, the farmhouse contains large open fireplaces and chamfered axial beams without stops. There is also a single-storey extension to the north with a gabled front, a corbelled verge, a plank door, and a sash window with 10/10 panes.
