Description

Well Cottage is a house dating back to the 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th century. It is timber-framed and has a painted brick casing, covered by a slate roof. The house is one storey high with attics. An 18th-century two-storey extension stands on the south side, and a single-storey block of painted brick and flint is at the south end. The north part of the house retains a continuous 16th-century wall plate, but the north gable end shows later 17th-century construction. Inside, a 16th-century smoke bay remains, although the 16th/17th-century chimney stack was removed in the 20th century. Windows have segmental heads and 18th-century wooden frames. There are two dormers in the slate roof.
