Description
No. 5 Blackbird Lane is a house dating from the early 18th century, with an extension added around 1800 and further alterations made in the late 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with burnt headers and features a tiled roof. The building is two storeys high and has a three-window front. The entrance is located on the left and consists of a six-panelled door with a rectangular fanlight above, supported by a hood on richly carved brackets. The windows are casements with cambered heads. On the ground floor, the central window is blocked, with three lights to the right. The first floor has two lights to the left, a blind centre window, and three lights to the right. A projecting brick course runs along the eaves. The roof is gambrel in style, half-hipped to the left, with a rendered gable end parapet to the right that features an end stack. To the right, there is a later addition that is lower and consists of two storeys with two bays. The ground floor of this addition has a segmental head to the left and a blocked opening to the right, with a hipped roof extending to the right. A catslide roof covers a rendered lean-to extension to the right, and there is one hipped dormer on the rear. A stack is located where the original block meets the addition. This house was built as an extension to the earlier Blackbirds Farm House.
