67 And 69, High Street

A pair of houses on High Street, Bushey, dating to around the 1840s, with the right-hand bay specifically dated 1816 above a ground floor window. The earlier bay is constructed of snecked stone, whitewashed, and otherwise stuccoed brick, while the rest is stuccoed brick. Both have slate roofs. The style is Gothic.

The houses are two storeys high. The earlier bay has Tudor arched windows set in splayed reveals, with drip moulds that are arched at ground floor level and square at first floor. Giant pilasters mark the ends of the earlier bay, and an ornamental foliate course runs below boxed eaves. The right gable end has a stepped parapet and an extruded stack. To the left, and slightly forward, is the entrance to No. 67, recessed and containing a six-panelled door set within a pointed arched head flanked by mask corbels. Below is blind arcading topped by a crenellated parapet. To the left again is a ground floor canted bay, featuring four 4-centred arched headed lights in chamfered reveals. The first floor window above this bay has a 4-centred arched head which steps outwards on either side. Pilaster strips are present on the first floor, supported by corbel figures. The gable has cusped bargeboards with a central corbel figure. A rear stack has two circular shafts.

The left return to No. 69 is angled at 45 degrees and features one bay with an entrance in an angled porch. This porch has a 4-centred arched head and chamfered surround to the door, all below a crenellated parapet. Sashes are set in splayed reveals with stopped hood moulds. A crenellated parapet sits atop this section, and a stack is located at the right end. The interior of the houses has not been inspected.
