Description
The Waggon and Horses Public House is a building dating from the mid to late 17th century, with brick casing and alterations from the early to mid 19th century. It features some original timber framing and has brick walls topped with a tiled roof. The structure consists of five bays and two storeys, with three windows. The entrance is located between the two left windows and is sheltered by a bracketed 19th-century hood. The ground floor has canted bay windows on either side, above which are two 19th-century sash windows. To the right, there is a second entrance and a three-light ground floor casement window. The first floor is clad in weatherboarding and has a single light window. The front wall displays two straight joints. The roof is half hipped to the left and features a 19th-century external stack, with a cross axial stack positioned towards the right on the front pitch. The right gable end is adorned with tile hanging, and there is a weatherboarded lean-to addition to the right with a slate roof. At the rear, there is a contemporary continuous outshut with two hipped projections, the larger of which was formerly a staircase wing. A flat-roofed one-storey rear extension is present but is not of special interest. Inside, there are some exposed timbers, chamfered bearers, and an inglenook fireplace with ovens.
