Description

Home Farm House is a house built between 1879 and 1881 by W. Butterfield for H. H. Gibbs. It features polychrome brick with sham timber framing and tile hanging, with a roof that is partly old tiled and partly machine tiled. The house is designed in the Domestic Revival Style and has two storeys.

The front of the house is asymmetrical, with a full-height entrance porch located to the right of the center. The entrance has a chamfered surround set in a 4-centred relieving arch. The upper stage has a diagonally set brick course, and below the sham timber framed first floor, there are two small mullioned sash windows. The gable features decorative timbers that jet out on corbels and a cusped bargeboard.

On the left side of the ground floor, there is a two-light sash window with a stone sill and a flat arched head. The right bay has a similar design but includes a narrow one-light sash. On the first floor, the left side has a sham timber frame over a stone course, while the right side showcases decorative tile hanging with a hipped roof and a gablet. The left return features a ground floor double sash window with black brick patterning, and the first floor has a sash window in a sham timber frame, with corbels supporting the gable and a cusped bargeboard.

At the rear, there are two stacks on the main ridge, with the right stack having stone offsets and caps, while the left stack is simpler. The right return has tile hanging on the first floor. There is a gabled wing at the rear, connected by a one-storey link that was extended forward in the 20th century to form a square dairy. This section features black brick patterning, clasping brick buttresses at the angles, and intermediate straight buttresses. It has two slit windows with stained glass in each bay, a stone course at sill level, and a stone cornice. The pyramidal roof is topped with a louvred sham timber framed lantern and a wrought iron finial. The interior has not been inspected.
