Description

No. 12 High Street is a house dating from the 16th century, with extensions from the 19th century and a refronting from the 20th century. It features a timber frame with a rendered brick casing and a tiled roof. The building originally comprised a longer hall house with two bays and is now two storeys high, presenting a four-window front with a central entrance. The windows are glazing bar sashes, and all openings have moulded surrounds with vermiculated keys. The stone-coped parapet adds to its character, while the roof is hipped to the left. The right stack has been rebuilt to resemble its 17th-century original, featuring two joined diagonal shafts on the front pitch and one behind, along with a left end stack. At the rear, the house has been extended with two separately roofed ranges positioned at right angles to the hall, which also have glazing bar sashes and hips to the rear. Inside, notable features include an arched braced collar truss and ovolo moulded ceiling beams.
