Description

Prospect Cottage and The Hermitage are a pair of houses located on the east side of Little Bushey Lane, Bushey, dating to 1741. A further extension was added in the 19th century. The houses are constructed of red brick with stone dressings, and have tile and slate roofs. The building is seven bays wide, with the left hand bays set back slightly, and is arranged as a 3:3:1 bay design. The central entrance to the right hand group of three bays features a six-panelled door with a moulded architrave and bracketed hood. The windows are flush frame glazing bar sashes with gauged brick flat arched heads and stone key blocks. A blind window is positioned centrally on the right-hand side of the first floor, and there is no window centrally on the left. A stone coped parapet tops the building, with a cross axial ridge stack situated between the groups of three bays, and a further stack at the left end. The left end of the building is roughcast. The roof is double span, with tiles to the front and slate to the rear. The left-hand side houses a glazed porch leading to a 19th-century block which has been added to the rear and projects to the left, with a bargeboarded gable end. The interior has not been inspected. The property is of group value.
