Description
This is a house located in Bushey, dating from the early 17th century, possibly built on the site of an earlier open hall. It has undergone alterations in the 18th and early 19th centuries, with extensions added in the early 20th century. The house features a timber frame that is rendered and roughcast, along with rendered brick extensions that include applied timber and some weatherboarding. It has a steeply pitched tiled roof and consists of three bays with a cross wing, forming an L shape and featuring a lobby entry.
The building is two stories high with attics. The central entrance is set within a 19th-century gabled porch that has sidelights and a pointed, chamfered entrance arch with bargeboards. On the ground floor, there is a three-light window to the left and a segmental bow window to the right. The first floor has a central single light window with leaded panes, flanked by oculi, and two-light windows to the left and three-light windows to the right, all with moulded architraves. There is a small gable with applied timber to the right.
To the left, there is an early 20th-century extension featuring a rectangular bay at a 45-degree angle, with four lights, applied timber studs, and a bargeboarded gable. The roof is hipped to the right. At the rear, there is a large 17th-century stack located at the rear of the ridge. The left return has gabled 20th-century extensions that step down towards the rear, while the right return features a small extruded gable. The main gable of the original cross wing is centered at the rear, with early 19th-century Gothick glazed windows on the first floor and lower weatherboarded gables on later additions. There is a ground floor loggia and a first floor sun balcony to the left. The interior has not been inspected.
