Description

Westley Farm is a house that dates back to the 16th century, built on an earlier site. It has small extensions to the north and south, as well as a parallel rear wing added in 1971. The structure features a timber frame resting on a black stuccoed sill, with plastered panelled pargetting on the ground floor and exposed close-studded timber framing on the first floor. The roof is steep, half-hipped, and covered with old red tiles.

The house has a three-cell, two-storey layout with an internal chimney and a lobby entry, facing east. It includes a narrow chimney bay, two wide bays to the north, and a smaller bay for the parlour to the south, which was extended by half a bay in 1971. There are three small flush casement windows with small lights on each floor and a gabled porch. The narrow rear range does not extend to the southern end.

At the northern end, there is a 1½ storey kitchen that is set back, featuring a gabled dormer on the roof slope, along with an open-fronted garage to the north. Inside, the house showcases exposed timbers, curved tension braces in the rear wall, jowled posts, and a clasped-purlin roof that reuses soot-blackened rafters from an earlier house. There is a face-halved bladed scarf joint in the wallplate, back-to-back fireplaces, an axial beam in the parlour, and cross beams in the part to the north of the chimney bay. A former stair is located behind the chimney, and there are mortices for a four-light diamond mullioned window in the rear wall.
