Description

Home Farm is a house dating from the 17th century or earlier, with a western bay and porch added around 1950 and an eastern extension built in 1974-5. It is timber-framed with a black stuccoed sill, and the walls are plastered with decorative panelled pargetting. The roof is steeply pitched with old red tiles. Originally a three-cell house with an internal chimney and lobby-entry plan, it faces north. The original chimney was positioned approximately a third of the way from the western end, and extensions have been added. A staircase is located within a gabled turret to the rear of the chimney. The north front has four windows and features a tiled gabled porch that sits in front of the chimney. It has two-light casement windows with small panes, and a boarded front door with a small window beside it. A red brick chimney is centrally positioned. The sill level steps down at the western bay.

Inside, there is a wide chimney bay with back-to-back fireplaces. The hall has a crossbeam and exposed ceiling joists, while the eastern services room, which incorporates an infilled cellar underneath, has an axial beam and exposed joists. Other structural features include jowled posts, straight tension braces, a face-halved bladed scarf in the wall plate, an edge halved scarf in the older western bay, and a clasped purlin roof supported by collar trusses. There is no smoke blackening visible on the timbers.
