Description
Little Orchard is a house that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with a hall that was floored and a chimney inserted around 1600. It features a timber frame resting on a black stuccoed sill, with roughcast walls and a steep half-hipped thatch roof. The building has 1½ storeys and consists of four bays, facing west towards the road, although the entrance is now located at the south end under a gabled porch with a boarded door. An internal chimney is situated a third of the way from the south end. The west front has three windows and a dormer at the eaves, with small two-light flush casement windows that have been renewed. There is a similar window on each floor at the south end. Inside, exposed wall timbers are visible, and remnants of an early window can be found in the west wall. The roof features curved wind braces supporting the clasped purlins. Additionally, there is a four-centred doorhead from around 1600 that has been cut into the partition of the room at the north end.
