House. C15 or early C16 inserted floor and jetties to middle part, renovated in early C19 when walls were heightened, jetties underbuilt, and S wing reduced to a lean-to. Later C20 renovation and NW rear wing added. Timber frame on stuccoed plinth, roughcast with slate roof hipped at N end. A late medieval 3-cells house facing E of unusual plan form, formerly with long open hall range and 2 storeyed end bays, projecting and possibly of Wealden House form. Jowled posts in the parlour wing at S indicate its roof was on the axis of the hall range. The N wing is axially divided and until late C20 the front door was opposite the rear door defining the cross-passage at the N end of the hall range. 2 lines of dovetail lap joints on the 3 cross-beams of the C16 inserted floor of the hall range indicate that there were wide jetties at front and rear, now underbuilt. A large internal chimney was built at the upper end of the hall but did not heat the parlour. There were staircases in each end wing.
