Description

Meesden Hall is a rectory that has been converted into a private house, dating from around 1710. The front of the building was moved from the east to the south in the early 19th century, which included the addition of a new porch and internal alterations. A west entrance wing was added in 1924. The house is constructed of red brick and features a steep pyramidal roof covered with old red tiles.

Originally, Meesden Hall was a tall, square, two-storey building with a cellar and attics, designed in the Queen Anne style. It had a low stuccoed kitchen wing at the northwest. The east front includes a plinth, a floor band that is interrupted at the corners, and a moulded wood eaves cornice. There is a hipped dormer on the roof slope with sash windows that have three panes over three panes. The east front has five windows on each floor arranged in a 2:1:2 pattern, featuring flat gauged arches, white projecting keystones, slightly recessed box sashes with four panes over four panes, and sunk panels in the brickwork below the first-floor windows. The left-hand windows were made blind when the front was created on the south, and the former central doorway was altered to match a window. Two right-hand ground floor windows were lengthened to become French windows that lead onto a small terrace.

The south front has a regular arrangement of segmental arched sash windows with six panes over six panes, presenting a symmetrical facade with five windows and a central porch. The porch features a full entablature and a blocking course that projects over the door. The door has a panelled moulded surround and is flush-beaded. There is also a discreet panelled door in the new shallow entrance wing, which is set back at the west.
