Description
This is a 17th-century barn located 25 meters northwest of Ebury Lodge in Westland Green, Little Hadham. The barn is timber-framed and weatherboarded, with a half-hipped thatched roof that extends over a gabled porch at the north end. Originally, the barn had three bays, featuring opposed double doors in the central bay. A further bay was added to the west end, which is indicated by differences in the timbers and a straight joint in the red brick sill wall, built in English bond in the older sections. The structure includes swept jowled posts and diagonal bracing in the walls, along with long curved braces supporting the tie beams. The roof is a clasped purlin design with collars and inclined queen struts, with one purlin on each slope. This barn is part of a group with Sharpes Farm on the north side of the road.
