Description
Little Court, located to the east of the River Rib, is a house built in the early 19th century on the site of a brick house from 1598 that was demolished in 1819. The west wing was added in the early 20th century, with later alterations. The main block features reused narrow red brick, while the rear parts are made of red brick, all topped with red tiled roofs.
This tall, symmetrical house has two storeys and attics, facing east with a gambrel roof and end chimneys. It has single-storey crenelated wings set back on each side, with the entrance now located on the south side of the south wing. The front displays a projected eaves cornice, three swept dormers featuring two-light Yorkshire sliding casements, and three recessed sash windows on the upper floor with plastered reveals, arranged in a pattern of 6/6, 3/3, and 6/6 panes. The ground floor has three taller windows with flush box sash windows beneath flat gauged arches, each with 12/12 panes.
The west extension, designed in the Arts and Crafts style, has one and a half storeys and features an entrance on the south side with a linked mullioned window and door, as well as three tall oak oriel windows on the north side, one adorned with lead decorative vents in a lattice window reminiscent of Lethaby's style. The two-storey west block includes a Wren-style entrance at the southeast, which has a segmental pediment above a vertical panelled door set in a bolection moulded surround.
