Description
The Old Croft is a house located on the north corner of Little Lane, dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century, with a taller west parlour wing added in the early 18th century. It features a timber frame set on a stuccoed plinth, with a plastered upper section over red brick nogging. The east gable displays remnants of old fan pargetting, and the building is topped with steep thatched roofs.
The structure includes a long single-storey range facing south, with rooms formed in the roof. The older part consists of three cells and has a central brick chimney from the 18th century inserted a third of the way from the east in the older chimney-bay. There are three rear-wall chimneys. The front of the house has three windows in the older section, a door leading into the west bay, and two eyebrow dormer windows. It features small-paned flush casement windows and a battened door. The two-storey west part is two windows wide and includes a door and window at the west end. The older section has a side-purlin roof, with cut-through tie beams and an arch-brace to the tie beam west of the stack.
