Description
The outbuilding at The Old Vicarage in Braughing village is a late 16th-century structure, originally serving as a brewhouse or outside kitchen, with an outside stair added in the 18th century. It features a timber frame resting on a flint sill wall, with weatherboarding and some plaster, topped by a steep old red tile roof. The building is a single cell structure with one square structural bay, a large red brick external gable chimney on the west side, and an entrance on the south side. There is a rear lean-to outshut and a west end outshut from the 18th or 19th century. An external weatherboarded enclosed staircase at the southeast corner provides access to the upper floor, which includes a fireplace. The heavy timber frame has close studding, tension braces, and a side purlin roof. The tall external chimney on the west side has offsets and three diagonal shafts, with the tops rebuilt as a rectangular shaft. It also features casement windows and a plank door.
