Description

The village pump, located on the central green in Braughing, dates from the 18th century or early 19th century. It features a cast iron spout, a wooden casing, and a wrought iron handle. The pump stands 2 meters tall and has a rectangular shape with a wooden plinth and an overhanging wooden cap. The large spout on the eastern face is moulded with a bucket spur and has elaborate leaf ornamentation, although the spout is currently plugged. On the northern side, there is a long, sinuous iron handle with a large oval terminal weight, and the fulcrum is located within the casing. This pump serves as a picturesque centerpiece to the village square.
