Description

This is a late medieval house, significantly restored in the 1950s. It is timber-framed, with roughcast plaster and exposed framing on two jetties facing west. The ground-floor walls have been replaced with plastered brickwork. The roof is steep, covered in old red tiles, and features hipped gables.

The house originally comprised an open hall with two crosswings. The jettied ends of the crosswings have close studding with curved tension braces. A cross passage within the north wing provides entry to the hall, and two short screens remain, forming a vestigial spire-truss. A staircase originally rose at the rear of the north wing, and a two-light window remains to illuminate it. The west front now has three 20th-century two-light casement windows on the ground floor, a similar window in each jettied wing, a small window under the eaves in the centre, and a mullioned window near the north wing. A large external chimney is situated on the south end.

The north wing has a simple collar-rafter roof; the narrower south wing features a plain crown-post roof with two-way struts. Within the partition at the upper (south) end of the hall, there are pegholes indicative of the original benches.
