Description
The Old Bakehouse is a house located in Braughing village, dating from the 17th century or earlier. It features a timber frame that is roughcast on a stucco plinth, topped with a steep old red tiled roof. This long, two-storey house faces north and has a rear lean-to outshot in brick on the eastern part.
The building has a central red brick chimney and an external gable chimney on the western end, along with an internal gable chimney at the eastern end. The north front includes three windows on the first floor, which are Yorkshire sliding casements with small panes. There are two plank doors, each with a moulded surround and a flat hood, connecting to a nearby two-light flush casement window in the middle of the house. Additionally, there is a three-light casement window near the right-hand end and a small rectangular bay window at the left-hand end. The eastern gable facing the road has two two-light casement windows and a dripboard at the eaves level.
