Description
Robbers Cottage is a house located in Braughing village, dating from the 17th century or earlier. It features a timber frame construction with roughcast and a stucco plinth, topped by a steep thatched roof. The building is long and has two storeys, with a lobby entry that faces east. A large red brick central chimney is positioned just behind the ridge. Originally, it likely had a three-unit plan with the chimney and lobby entry located a third of the way from the southern end. It was later extended by one bay to the south, creating a symmetrical front. The house has four windows on both the first and ground floors, with a central boarded door that has a flat hood supported by brackets. The windows include 2-light 19th-century flush casements, with some 3-light windows on the ground floor. There is also a shallow two-storey rear extension from the 20th century. Robbers Cottage is the prominent end house of the block and was formerly known as Nos 3 and 5.
