Description

This is a block of three houses located on The Street in Braughing village. They date from the early 19th century and are constructed with a timber frame and roughcast render, topped with a low-pitched slate roof. The houses are two storeys high, facing west. The design is of a handed pair of houses on the right side of the carriageway, with a shared chimney, and a single house on the left which has an internal gable chimney. Each house has a double-pile plan, meaning rooms are arranged in two parallel rows, with the entrance door positioned away from the fireplace. The houses originally had one window on each floor in each house. The original front door to the southern house (No. 8) is a flush beaded door set in a moulded surround. The windows are flush box sashes, with moulded surrounds, originally containing 8/8 panes, although these have been replaced with 4/8 panes in Nos. 10 and 12. A double door leads to the carriageway within a narrow frame. The buildings are listed for their contribution to the group value of the surrounding buildings.
