Description
Red Stack is a house located in Braughing village, dating from the 16th century and altered and refronted in brick during the mid-17th century. It features a timber frame on a low sill, with roughcast walls. The west gable frame is exposed and filled with red brick, while the south side has a red brick front. The house has a steep old red tile roof that extends over a rear outshot. It has a three-unit plan with large external brick chimneys on the east and west sides, and it formerly had a continuous jetty along the south side. The building is two stories high with attics and has a three-bay structural frame. There are remains of a brick oven by the east chimney. The central chimney is located one-third of the distance from the west end. The symmetrical south front is made of brick in English bond, featuring a floor band, a central gabled dormer on the roof slope, and three windows on each floor. The windows are flush three-light leaded casements, which have been renewed and do not have arches above them.
