Description

Ash Cottage is a house located 300 metres west of Mardocks Farm, dating from the 17th century or earlier, with a late 17th century parlour wing on the east side. The building features a timber frame that is roughcast, with smooth margins at the corners and openings. It has an old red tile roof and a tarred brick plinth. This long, two-storey structure has a higher block at the east end, with a lobby entrance next to a central chimney that serves both sections of the house. There is a rear outshut extension to the east block.

The north-facing front has four 2-light casement windows and a 19th-century cabled timber porch with a shaped bargeboard. The main block has small upper windows located under the eaves, and there is a large external gable chimney at the west end that serves the ground floor only. The south front is plastered, with the ground floor covered in dark weatherboard. It features a half-glazed door with a flat hood supported by brackets, and to the left of the door is a 2-light casement window with small panes.
