Description
Nos. 93 and 95 High Street is a house that now serves as a dwelling and offices. It has origins dating back to the 16th century or early 17th century, with parts rebuilt in the 18th century and altered in the 20th century. The building features a timber frame that is rendered, with tiled roofs. The earlier two bays are set back, while a later range extends forward to the left, forming an L shape in plan.
The structure has two storeys. The earlier range includes a ground floor entrance and large shop windows, with a first floor featuring a flush frame 16-pane sash window. There is a plinth and a weatherboarded dado on a low one-storey, one-bay addition to the right, which has a large 20th-century six-pane window. A 17th-century red brick multiform stack, originally external, is now incorporated into the lower addition on the right. The right end displays exposed plates and a steep pitch.
The later range projects to the left and features pargetting and a hipped roof at the front, with steps leading up to a recessed four-panelled door. The ground floor has 12-pane and the first floor has 16-pane flush frame sashes. An external stack is located towards the front on the left return, with weatherboarding at the rear. The rear includes some cement rendering, an added stack on the rear gable end of the cross range, and casement windows.
Inside, there is a chamfered binding beam, arched braces from jowled posts, and a possible crown post roof.
