Description
Benington Park is an 18th-century house that was extended and altered in the later 19th century, and reduced in the 20th century. The house is constructed of stucco lined to resemble ashlar, with steep slate roofs and wooden brackets supporting the oversailing eaves. It is two storeys and a basement, with three windows on the south-facing side, and features gable chimneys. There is a large two-storey extension to the east end, and a half-octagonal, full-height projection to the rear. The north-facing front and garden front have a plinth and floorband, with wide round-headed recesses framing the three ground-floor openings. The windows are recessed sash windows, with six-pane glazing. A central pediment is above the front entrance, containing a semi-circular window. There are two small, flat-topped dormers. Extensions of one window to the left and two windows to the right flank the main block. A square, enclosed porch projects forward, with pilastered Doric doorcase and double-panelled doors set within an eared architrave featuring a giant keystone. A low wrought-iron fence runs along the centre of the front.
