Description

Sidhill House is a house dating back to the 16th century, with significant alterations in the mid-17th and mid-19th centuries. It is timber-framed and now clad in roughcast with imitation half-timbering. The roof is tiled, and the house features 19th-century brick chimneystacks with diagonal shafts. The house is arranged in an L shape.

The northeast elevation, facing the road, has two gabled dormers and ground floor windows with lozenge latticework. A 16th or 17th century four-centred arch door frame is located on the north side. The southwest elevation features a gable end with a curved bargeboard, a ground floor tiled bay window, tile-hung dormers and leaded casements. A 16th-century rear wing on the southwest side has a two-storey, southeast-facing bay window with leaded lights and imitation half-timbering.

The interior of the front range retains 17th-century floor beams. The central room has a good, mid-17th century plaster frieze approximately 40cm deep, featuring trailing vines, fruits, leaves, and an unusual spiral bottom moulding. The rear wing, originally separate from the front range and presumably a kitchen, has blackened 16th-century floor beams.
