Description
The Barn School, formerly known as Hill House, is a house that has been converted into a school. It was built in the mid to late 19th century and features red brick in an imitation Tudor style. The upper storey has an exposed timber frame with brick nogging, and the building is topped with an old tile roof.
The structure is primarily a seven-window range, with five windows positioned close to the road. This section includes a central door set in an arched recess with a moulded wooden lintel. On either side of the door are jettied gable ends adorned with ornamental bargeboards, with the southern gable featuring a large square chimneystack. The northern part of the building is recessed and has a gable facing the street, along with two windows facing north.
The windows are two- and three-light casements with leaded, lozenge-shaped panels, most of which slightly project and have tiled window heads. There is also a later flat-roof extension at the front that includes a classical cornice. The southern elevation features a canted oriel window on the first floor, which is also decorated with an ornate bargeboard.
