Description

The War Memorial in Much Hadham was unveiled in 1921 and designed by architect H. Wilson, with masonry work by W. Micklewright and site layout by G. L. Thurgood and Son. It is constructed from Ham Hill stone with a Portland stone base. The memorial features a cross with arms of almost equal length and moulded stops, set on an 8-sided shaft that has two equally spaced bands. It stands on a high plinth with a square plan, which includes a tiered base of two shallow 8-sided steps and a wide square base. The inscription on one side reads "TO THE MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918," while the opposite side states, "TO THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE WORLD WAR 1939-1945."
