Description

Much Hadham St Andrew's Church of England Junior Mixed Infants School is a village school that incorporates a 16th-century cottage, which runs parallel to the street and consists of four timber frame bays. The building was remodeled in the late 19th century when additional school rooms were constructed. The ground floor is faced with 19th-century gault brick, while the upper floor features mock timber framing on three southern bays and a combination of timber frame and brick on the northern bay. The roof is covered with old tiles and is divided into three sections, with the southern section being a late 19th-century addition. Both floors have 19th-century casement windows, and the northern ground floor window is likely older. There is an original chimneystack located towards the south. The late 19th-century school buildings consist of two blocks with slate roofs that are now connected by a 1926 addition. The former girls' school, located to the south, has a gable end facing the road and features an open bell turret topped with a weathervane, a plain bargeboard, and a three-light sash window. The boys' school is L-shaped and runs parallel to the road, with an external chimneystack and three triple sash windows.
