Description

The Red Lion is a house that was once a public house, dating from the 18th century. It features a timber frame that is roughcast, with a weatherboarded apron up to the height of the front door. The steeply pitched roof is now covered with slate and extends as a catslide over the rear outshot. The building has two storeys and a two-unit plan, with end chimneys, and it faces south. There are red brick external gable chimneys at each end. The front is symmetrical with three windows and a central door. The upper windows are three-light flush casements. The door is panelled and half-glazed, with margin lights and a flat hood supported by curved brackets, all set in a moulded surround. On either side of the door are canted bay oriel casement windows, each featuring a frieze and cornice, supported by two cusped trefoil pierced brackets. To the left, there is a single-storey extension from the 19th century, made of red brick and slate, which is set back from the main building.
