Description

This is a block of six houses located on Nether Street, dating to the early 18th century. The houses are timber-framed and rendered with plaster, featuring steep roofs covered in old red tiles, with gables at each end. They face south, and each house has one window to each of two floors, with a pair of doors centrally positioned between each of the three pairs of houses. Internal gable chimneys are present. Notable features include projecting rafter feet at the eaves, a continuous dripboard over the lower windows and doors of each pair, and modern wood casement windows that are set flush. A single-storey lean-to extension, built in matching materials, adjoins the west end. Inside, squared axial beams and squared joists are visible. Upstairs in number 6, there is an early 18th century raised and fielded panelled door. The row was originally thatched and partially weatherboarded. This is an historic row of early 18th century estate houses, contributing to the character of the surrounding Conservation Area and valued as a group.
