Description

This is a late medieval hall house, significantly altered and refronted in the 18th century and early 19th century, and once incorporating a shop. The building is timber-framed, with plaster and a lined appearance resembling ashlar above a painted brick plinth. It has a steep roof covered in old red tiles, with a hipped section to the left and a half-hipped section to the right. The east front, three windows wide, has a parapet concealing the roofline. The upper floor features flush box sash windows with moulded surrounds, each containing 8/8 panes. A six-panelled door is situated on the left, sheltered by a small moulded hood. To the right of the door is a larger sash window with 6/6 panes. The right-hand two-thirds of the building contain a shop front with two divided windows and stall risers flanking the door, all sheltered by a box fascia. A central chimney is located nearer the south end. A rear wing, one and a half storeys high, extends to the rear, with lean-to extensions on either side.
