Description
Keepers Cottage is a gardener's house for the Panshanger Estate, dating from the early 18th century. It was re-roofed and extended in the early to mid 19th century, likely built for the 1st Earl Cowper when the main house was located nearby at Cole Green Park. The cottage is constructed of red brick and features a hipped slate roof. It has three broad bays and is two storeys tall. The central entrance includes a four-panelled door with fielded upper panels, a rectangular fanlight, and a gabled trellised porch. The windows are 16-pane recessed sashes with stone sills, and the ground floor windows have cambered heads. There is a plat band and dentilled brick eaves. Two cross axial ridge stacks are positioned on either side of the central bay, and one bay returns. At the rear, there is a gabled 19th-century wing with an end stack and two-light casements, while most openings on the main range are blocked except for the ground floor on the right. The left end features a lean-to outshut with an external stack and a rendered return. The interior has not been inspected.
