Description

The memorial sundial at St Edmund's College, dating from around 1869, is made of limestone and features a circular bronze dial on top. It stands approximately 1.5 meters high and is supported by a wide octagonal pillar with a deep Gothic moulded base. The sundial has a simple octagonal capstone with a raised octagonal center that would have held the gnomon, which is now missing. Each facet of the shaft is inscribed in Gothic lettering. This sundial was erected to commemorate the celebration held from June 8 to June 10, 1869, marking the centenary of the founding of the school at Old Hall Green.
