GV II

2 barns in line facing W. C18. Tall unaisled black weatherboarded, timberframed barns with steep gabled roofs and low red brick sill walls. Larger and higher S barn has a slated roof, central double doors and structural bays with the 2nd and 4th bays narrower than the others. It has a principal rafter and butt-purlin roof with 2 purlins to each slope. Long curved braces in the walls and supporting the tie-beams. Curved angle braces in front doorway and unusual curved bracing from wall- plate to lintol over the blocked rear door. The narrower 3-bay N barn is at a lower level and is set back on the W side. It is now roofed in slates with gaps for ventilation. Clasped-purlin roof structure with collar and angle braces to each truss. Long curved braces to tie-beams. One purlin to each slope. Irregular English bond red brickwork in sill wall. Historic weatherboarded barns forming a picturesque group with Amwellbury Farmhouse.
