Description

Lockers is a country house dating from the 16th century and late 18th century, currently used by a school. The rainwater head is dated 1800 and features the initials 1C. The south block, which is from the 16th century and altered in the 19th century, has a red brick front and a tiled roof with ornamental bargeboards on two gables. It is two storeys high and has two flush lattice casement windows beneath drip moulds. There is a rebuilt chimneystack with clustered diagonal shafts.

The late 18th century north block has an unpainted stucco front with a parapet that masks the roof. This block is also two storeys tall and features end pilasters and a reeded band at the eaves level. It has eight sash windows with glazing bars set in reveals, and a half-glazed two-fold door with marginal lights and a wide semi-circular traceried fanlight. The Doric porch includes two fluted columns, two similar half columns, an open pediment with a mutule cornice, and a coffered soffit.

The interior retains several original features, including chimneypieces, cornice mouldings, a staircase with wrought iron railings, a moulded handrail, and cut spandrels. In recent years, the house was home to Sir William Hart, who served as Clerk to the Greater London Council.
