Description
Blickling Lodge is a country house that has been converted into an educational establishment. It dates from the late 18th century, with a rainwater head on the west gable dated 1787. The building is constructed of red brick and features a hipped plain-tiled roof. It stands three storeys tall and has a symmetrical south facade with five bays. The windows are sashes with glazing bars, and there are gauged skewback arches over the openings. The central doorway is framed by Doric pilasters that support a reeded entablature with decorative paterae, and it includes a semicircular fanlight with decorative glazing bars and a panelled reveal. The building has a plinth with stone capping, a stone platband at the first floor level, and a modillion eaves cornice with a reeded fascia. There are two chimney stacks that are symmetrically placed to the east and west. The north facade is similar but has a simpler doorway with a plain entablature and a 3-light rectangular fanlight above. There are later additions to the west. Inside, the ground floor rooms feature bolection-moulded panelling and fireplaces, including one fireplace with Ionic columns and a panelled overmantle.
