Description

The buildings at 16 and 18 High Street date primarily from the 18th century, although the main structure is likely earlier, from the 16th or early 17th century. They are situated on the west side of High Street. The front facade is of colour-washed brick with a hipped roof covered in old tiles, hidden behind a parapet. The ground floor contains a modern shop on the right and a 19th-century shop on the left, the latter featuring a shop front with four segmentally arched lights. The first floor has three windows, two of which have been altered, and one original sash window with glazing bars. The side and back elevations reveal an exposed timber framework with brick nogging, including gabled back elevations. Numbers 16 and 18 are historically linked as a group with numbers 23 to 29 (odd) Queensway.
