Description

Tuffs Farm and Tuffs Farm Cottage, also known as No. 2, is a farmhouse that has been converted into two private houses. It dates from the late 16th century, with a northeast extension added in the 18th century and brick casing applied in the 19th century. A west end extension was built in 1938. The building features a timber frame that is cased in red brick, with the east side of the crosswing facing the road painted white. The west end is made of yellow brick, and the roofs are steeply pitched with old red tiles.

The structure is L-shaped and has two storeys, facing south, with a two-storey east crosswing and a two-storey west extension that has a gable on its south face. There is a lobby entry next to a very large internal chimney located at the junction with the crosswing. The south front has six windows, which are casement windows, along with two doors. To the west, there are dark weatherboarded single-storey outhouses with a steep red tiled roof. The east front features a three-light flush casement window on each floor and a door to the right.

The two-storey northeast extension includes one two-light casement window with a timber lintel on the first floor and two on the ground floor. It has a large gable chimney and a weatherboarded lean-to. Inside, there are jowled posts with a clasped-purlin roof supported by tie-beam and collar trusses, along with wind bracing. The north gable of the crosswing displays an exposed frame of a clasped-purlin roof that is brick-nogged, featuring diminished principals and a central strut. The hall contains a chamfered axial beam and a two-panel door leading from the lobby entrance.
