Description

TRING BULBOURNE SP 91 SW 4/52 Barn at Folly Farm - GV II Barn. C17. Timber frame with dark weatherboarding and steep pitched old red tile roof. A tall 4-bays barn facing N with gabled porch in 2nd bay from W, and mortices for former partition dividing off the E bay. Jowled posts with unjowled mid-bay posts, mid-height rail tenoned in-line, straight braces to tie-beams. Clasped-purlin roof with 2 purlins in each slope. High upper collar with very long queen-struts rising from tie-beam, framing a central opening convenient for filling top of barn. Spur-collars from queen-struts support lower clasped purlin with a short queen-strut under joint. Double doors in porch with winnowing door in S wall opposite and high pitching doors in flanking bays. Squint-butted scarf joints in wallplate each with 2 edge pegs. Purlins have single splayed scarf joints over principals.
